What does stated support mean on my NDIS plan?

A 'Stated Support' in your NDIS plan refers to funding that has been specifically allocated for a particular service or support, and cannot be used for anything else. You are required to use this funding only for the designated support.

Examples of stated supports:

How to identify stated supports in your NDIS plan:

Stated supports will be clearly labelled in your NDIS plan. Some sections of your funding may be labelled as stated supports while other parts might allow more flexibility in how the funds can be used.

Why are stated supports used in NDIS plans?

Stated supports are used by the NDIS to ensure that certain crucial services are provided and funded in the most appropriate way for the participant’s needs. These are usually supports that are considered essential or require specific management to ensure the participant’s safety or well-being.

Flexibility within stated supports:

While you can’t switch stated supports for other services, some flexibility may exist within the stated support. For example, if you have a stated support for assistive technology, there may be flexibility in choosing which exact device to purchase, provided it aligns with your goals and funding.

Changing a stated support:

Support needs may evolve over time. If the stated support in your plan no longer aligns with your requirements, you have two main options:

  1. Light Touch Review:
    • If the change needed is minor (e.g., purchasing a different model of an item with the same cost), you can request a 'light touch' review. However, this review does not allow you to request additional funding.
  2. Plan Reassessment:
    • If the change is significant and requires more funding, you'll need to request a plan reassessment (formerly known as a Plan Review).
