The NDIS continually evolves to better meet the needs of participants. One important aspect of this is the periodic updates to the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits (PAPL), often referred to as the Price Guide. The latest changes, effective 1 July 2024, introduce some important updates aimed at improving transparency, fairness and access to necessary supports. Let’s take a look at these changes!
You can view all the changes here to the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits. The PAPL explains how the pricing works for supports and services in the NDIS. Let’s take a closer look at these key changes.
The price limit shave been increased for certain supports including assistance with self-care activities, Supported Independent Living (SIL), accomodation and nursing supports, and supports provided by psychologists. This increase was made based on the Fair Work Commissions decision on wages and the cost of living.
Price limits for psychosocial recovery services and support coordination level 1 will also increase. There will be no changes to pricing arrangements for support coordination level 2 and level 3 or plan management.
NDIS plans will be increased this month to reflect some of these changes, so you might see some extra funding in your plan for certain items starting July 13th. There isn’t anything that you need to do as this will all be automatically adjusted by the NDIS.
The cancellation notice period was previously for 7 days. This meant that when a participant cancels an appointment at short notice (within 7 days) or was a no show, providers could claim up to the full appointment fee. The NDIS has now changed this short notice cancellation period to 2 business days for most supports. Providers may also choose to wave fees at their discretion.
The full 7-day cancellation period may still apply to disability support workers who meet the criteria outlined in the pricing arrangements, including having a written 7-day cancellation period in the service agreement. It is important to know the specific cancellation period required by each of your providers, so make sure to reach out and ask if you are unsure!
The Temporary Transformation Payment (TTP) is a pricing boost introduced by the NDIS in 2019 to help registered providers transition to the NDIS system and funding model.
The TTP for disability support worker-related supports will end effective 1st of July 2024. After this date, providers will no longer be able to claim the TTP loading for services delivered.
If you are a participant, be aware that the cost of some services might increase because of the updated price limits. Also note that the price limits are maximum limits, so some providers may not change anything regarding cost until the a new plan rolls over.
It is also a good idea to talk with all your service providers to understand how these changes might affect your current and future service agreements! This will be a big help in effectively planning and managing your NDIS funding.
The NDIS is currently conducting a detailed pricing review, which will bring some updates to the pricing arrangements and structure by 2025. Stay tuned for more updates coming later this year!
